We’ve all seen the headlines and read the stories—kids don’t play outside as much as they used to. If you were to believe what you see on TV or read on the web, you’d think that kids today would prefer to simply sit on the couch all day and stare at a screen.
At Go Fish, we don’t think it’s quite that simple. Do kids now spend more time indoors? Probably; there are just so many entertaining options at their disposal. But that doesn’t mean kids have lost interest in being active and getting outside. We just need to give them a reason to do it!
With that in mind, we’re going to highlight seven songs for kids to sing that you can use to bring some new excitement to your next outdoor play session. Head out into the backyard, turn on a speaker, and let the fun begin!
One of the best things about creating the music we get to share with the world is seeing how it helps kids (along with their parents) get active and have fun as they let loose and dance along to the beat. To try out some of our songs for kids, head over to YouTube, Apple Music, or Spotify and check out what we have to offer.
There are so many valuable lessons for kids (and adults, of course) to learn from the Bible. Those lessons don’t always feel accessible to young kids, however, until they are put into a form that makes them fun and interesting. That was exactly the goal behind our song “The B-I-B-L-E.”
Give this song a listen and you’ll see why it’s perfect for encouraging your kids to get up and move. The music is fun and fast, and the lyrics convey a valuable message that you’ll love to share with your family.
What parent doesn’t love to introduce their kids to the things that were cool when they were younger? It’s always fun to see the looks on the kids’ faces when they hear something new to them—and it’s even better if they get a bit embarrassed by their parents’ dance moves!
Our song “Kickin’ It Old School” is a great way to break out some of your old moves and show the kids that they aren’t the only ones able to have a good time. After a while, the kids will come around and see that you might not be so lame after all—and they’ll start to join in with a few dance moves of their own.
One of our most popular songs, “The Ten Commandment Boogie” is a great way to get the little ones dancing while learning valuable Bible lessons at the same time. This is not only a good addition to your backyard dance party playlist, but you could also use it in a Sunday School or VBS setting when you need to get the whole class moving.
None of our songs have been watched more times on YouTube than “My God,” at over 2.5 million views. We are proud of how many people this song has reached, and while the lyrics deliver an important message, the beat is what will grab your kids’ attention first.
If you are watching the video, it will be easy for the kids to follow along with the moves they see on stage. Of course, they are also free to make up their own moves and just go along with the powerful beat. As long as the neighbors aren’t asleep, make sure to turn this one way up!
This one is a kids music classic for a reason! It never fails to get the attention of the young ones, no matter how many times they have heard it. And, since you surely know it so well, you can easily join in on the fun right from the start. We are proud to have our own version of this legendary song, but there are many great recordings out there, so you can try a few and see which ones your family likes best.
For a young brain, learning all of the books of the Bible can seem like an impossible task. Not only is it hard to remember them all, but going over the list repeatedly isn’t exactly a child’s idea of a good time.
So let’s make it fun! Our “Bible Book Bop” is another one that encourages free movement while being educational along the way. Once you’ve danced to this song over and over, all of your kids will know most or all of the books of the Bible—even if it didn’t feel like they were ever studying.
It’s not a great idea to have kids jumping on a bed, but jumping around outside? No problem. Our rendition of “Five Little Monkeys” has an upbeat tempo and is perfect for getting the party started quickly. With lyrics that the kids can easily remember and sing along to while jumping around, we wouldn’t be surprised if this song gets played more than anything else.
Playing fun songs outside and encouraging your kids to move around with the beat is a great way to have fun as a family. To make these dance parties even more enjoyable, have your kids help craft the playlist and take their feedback on which songs they love and which they would rather leave out.
Over time, you can curate an excellent playlist of family favorites that will be sure to bring life to your outdoor play sessions time after time. If you have multiple kids, be sure to get input from all of them so they each have a few tunes that they love within the mix. You could even have them take turns playing DJ so they can be in control and play their favorite hits.
You are certainly welcome to play any and all of our songs for your kids, and we hope that some of them become family favorites. But that doesn’t have to be the end of your connection with the Go Fish team and what we offer to our audience.
Another great way to engage with our content is to try out The Go Fish Podcast for Kids! This family-friendly show includes plenty of music along with a focus on the truth of the gospel. We also have our first book coming out soon called A Broken Crayon, based on our popular song of the same name.
Thank you for taking a moment to learn more about Go Fish, and we hope some of these outdoor songs for kids help everyone in the family to get up and move a little more often. Have fun!
